Ustad Ibrahim Ibrahimi was born in 1972 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, into a family of musicians. He is a renowned tabla master and music composer. He graduated from the Mia Sahib Qader Bakhsh and studied under Ustad Sabz Ali Khan, subsequently working at Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA). Following the 2021 takeover of Kabul by the Taliban, he departed Afghanistan hastily and sought refuge in France, where he currently resides.
Humayoun was born in 1995 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. He graduated from Paris University. He relocated to France in 2018 and has since been striving to maintain his proficiency in tabla which he learned from his father, Ustad Ibrahimi. Humayoun is curious and open-minded, and he readily shares his passion for tabla with Western musicians he encounters.
Ismail was born in 2002 in Nanagarhar, Afghanistan. He initially pursued the musical tradition of his familly, studying the tabla with his father Ustad Ibrahimi. However, he subsequently developed an interest in the Pashto and Persian poetic repertoire, which led to a shift in his focus towards vocal performance and the harmonium. In 2024, he appeared in a video clip interpreting a song composed by his father titled "Afghanistan".
Haroon was born in 1997 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. He follows in his grandfather's footsteps, Ustad Haji Abdul Qayoum, who was himself an Afghan rubab master, and was an official pupil of Ustad Ahmadullah Sardar Mado. He arrived in France in 2018 with his brother Humayoun. During his exile he gave a concert in Greece for Unesco before arriving in France in 2018 with his brother Humayoun.
Yousuf was born in 2004 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. He studied music with his father, Ustad Ibrahimi, and at the Afghan National Institute of Music for several years before leaving Afghanistan. As a rubab player, he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Ustad Haji Abdul Qayoum. He was employed as a rubab player on Lemar TV from an early age and also took part in a concert on Shamshad TV with his brother Mustafa.
Mustafa was born in Nangarhar, Afghanistan in 2007. He followed the same path as his older brothers and was taught the tablas by his father, Ustad Ibrahimi. At the age of twelve, he performed on Shamshad TV alongside his brother Yousuf, demonstrating his musical talent at an early age. In addition to the tablas, Mustafa is not afraid to use other percussion instruments found in Afghan music, such as the dholak and the zerbaghali.
Pierre was born in 1978 in Créteil, France. He is a qualified music teacher, trained in Western music. In the 2000s, he discovered Afghan culture and music. This led to the opportunity for him to cross paths with renowned Afghan musicians such as Gada Mohammad, Humayoun Sakhi and Beltoon. Trained as a saxophonist, he naturally turned to the tula (Afghan flute), with a preference for the folk repertoire.
